拭き漆のお箸(カピバラ)

拭き漆(※1)の技法で作ったアニマル箸です。国産のヒバ(アスナロ)材の箸木地を手で1本ずつ動物の形に削り、手で塗り、手で研ぎ、約2か月かけて作っています。

ウルシハジメマシタの箸は7回塗り重ね、その間に2回研いでいます。
塗り重ねた艶は落ちにくいと言われ、長くお使いいただけます。また木地が十分水分(漆)を吸っているため、食べ物の汁や洗い物の水を吸いにくく、衛生的です。
劣化が早い先端に黒漆を塗って、劣化を遅らせる工夫をしています。

【備考】
※1　拭き漆
　木地に漆を薄く塗ってから拭き取るという工程を数回繰り返し、水分の吸い込みを止め、つやを上げていく技法。この工程の途中で、2～3回サンドペーパーで研ぎの工程を入れ、手触りや口当たりよく仕上げています。木目の美しさが際立ちます。

CHOPSTICKS with FUKI URUSHI (CAPYBARA)

Animal chopsticks made with FUKI URUSHI technique (*1). I cut chopsticks of domestic Hiba (Thujopsis dolabrata) wood by hand one by one into animal shape, applied URUSHI (lacquer) by hand, and sharpened by hand. It takes almost 2 months.

Chopsticks of Urushi.hajimemashita are applied URUSHI (lacquer) for seven times, and they are sharpened twice during that time.
It is said that gloss applied URUSHI (lacquer) repeatedly is hard to deteriorate, so that you can use it for a few years. Moreover, since the wood is sucking enough moisture (URUSHI (lacquer)), it is hygienic because it hardly sucks soup and soapy water from washing dishes. I applied black URUSHI (lacquer) at the tip to delay deterioration.

[Remark]
* Color, size and shape of each piece are different because it was made of natural wood by hand.

* I have shorter ones for kids(about 18cm).

* what is FUKI URUSHI ... Apply URUSHI to woods and wipe it off. Repeat it for several times to privend woods from absorbing water and bring out the lustre.During this process whet the woods with sandpaper for 2-3 times to make them softer when you put it in a mouth and touch it.This technique makes the grain of woods looks more beautiful.
